The amendment to the Election and Referendum Law was published in the Official Gazette on Monday.
According to the latest changes in the legislation, the local elections will be held on November 27, 2022.
The changes made to the Election and Referendum Law which was ratified earlier by parliament was published in the Official Gazette, allowing the postponement of local elections which were set to take place in June.
According to the approved amendment prepared by the National Unity Party (UBP), the Rebirth Party (YDP) and Democrat Party (DP) coalition government, local elections will now take place on November 27, 2022.
The current mayors and local administrators will continue to resume their duties until the November election.
Commenting on the issue, the head of the Supreme Court Narin Şefik said that holding a by-election for the seat vacated by the Peoples’ Party leader Kudret Özersay following his resignation from parliament and the local elections on the same date would not cause any problems.
