President Ersin Tatar received the Principle of the London Rauf Raif Denktaş Turkish School Meryem Biricik and her accompanying delegation.
Speaking during the visit Principal Biricik informed the president regarding the work being carried out at the school and stated that all their efforts are aimed towards reinforcing the Turkish Cypriot culture, customs and traditions and for children to be able to develop their Turkish speaking skills.
Also speaking during the visit President Tatar said that he too had visited the school in London and stated that both the teachers assigned by the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and the teachers living in the UK are making great effort for students to learn their own culture and develop their speaking skills.
Pointing out that there are many Turkish Cypriots who live in many other parts of the world, especially in London, Tatar said that he is pleased that families take their children to Turkish schools and enable them to participate in the activities of Turkish Cypriot associations, as culture and traditions are passed on to future generations.
“It is important that Turkish Cypriot children living abroad gain a love for the TRNC, preserve their culture and speak Turkish, so the work you do as teachers is very valuable. The TRNC is our homeland, our independence and freedom” said Tatar.
Tatar emphasized the importance of the TRNC always making efforts to solve the problems of Turkish Cypriots living abroad and said that the customs and traditions of those living abroad should be passed on and the ties with the TRNC should be further strengthened by using the opportunities that come with the times.
Tatar also said that there are people from abroad, especially from the UK and Australia, who are investing in business and construction in the TRNC and noted that there have been developments in higher education, tourism, construction, services and agriculture sectors in the country.
