Main opposition calls for tighter inspections and study of public buildings

The main opposition Republican Turkish Party has prepared an 11-point package of proposals to avert the effects of an earthquake disaster similar to the one experienced in Türkiye and to manage the current process effectively.

The proposals include a detailed study of the condition of public buildings such as schools and hospitals, tightening inspections and building codes at construction sites, reinforcing technical infrastructure and hiring more experts in the field.

The CTP said that all public hospitals, starting with, Dr Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital, should be examined and a report prepared.

It also pointed to the need to prepare plans for a possible influx of survivors to the country in order to manage the country’s resources effectively and efficiently.

The proposals also include the formation of two parliamentary committees which will be assigned with the task of following up on the judicial processes undergoing in Türkiye as well as reporting on the use of public funds and planning of services.

The other proposals include ensuring that aid donations collected in the TRNC are delivered to the right addresses, halting of the construction of the new presidential complex and rechanneling the funds to be used in its construction to meet the needs of earthquake survivors in Türkiye.
