Date Added: 10 March 2025

A ceremony was held at the Malya Martyrs Monument at Aydınköy to honour the Malya martyrs.

The event was attended by President Ersin Tatar, who paid tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for the survival of the Turkish Cypriot people.

In his speech, President Ersin Tatar emphasized that Turkish Cypriots have always fought for their rights and that commemorating martyrs on such occasions is both a duty and an opportunity to send a strong message to the world.

He reiterated that the sacrifices made by the Turkish Cypriot people prove their distinct identity and that a two-state solution remains the most viable path forward.

Tatar also criticized the Greek Cypriot administration for openly advocating for policies aimed at severing ties with Türkiye and assimilating Turkish Cypriots under a federal system.

He stated that these concerns would once again be expressed at the upcoming Geneva meetings.
