March 23 World Meteorology Day seminar organized

The Meteorology Department and the Chamber of Meteorological Engineers organized a seminar to mark March 23rd World Meteorology Day.

In the speeches made at the seminar themed ‘At the Forefront of Climate Action’, attention was drawn to climate change and the importance of meteorological forecasts in preventing possible disasters.

Speaking at the opening of the seminar, President Ersin Tatar noted that due to climate change, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) may face some dangers in the future and emphasized that it is necessary to be prepared for such dangers.

Tatar said that necessary investments should be made to increase the opportunities against natural disasters that may occur in the country.

Minister of Public Works and Transportation Erhan Arıklı for his part noted that climate change is the biggest danger of the next century and therefore investments must be made in this field.

“The most important thing is the new Meteorology station tower we will build at Ercan Airport. We have made the necessary negotiations and changes will be made”.

He also noted that they are working to include the project they have prepared to move the Meteorology Department to a better place in the 2025 financial cooperation protocol to be signed with Türkiye.
