The “25th of November Organizing Committee”, formed by some political parties and non-governmental organizations, arranged a march within the framework of the 25 November Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
Women gathered at the Kumsal Park and marched to parliament.
The joint statement of the organizations in front of the parliament was read by the representative of the Cyprus Turkish Secondary Education Teachers’ Union, Çilen Ulusoy.
In the statement, Ulusoy claimed that the economic and social collapse that the country has fallen into affects women the most and that this situation causes violence to further deepen.
Ulusoy said that according to the data of the violence against women intervention branches established within the police force within the scope of the TOCED law in 2018, an average of 800 women apply to this special unit every year.
“Half of the applications are cases of physical violence. However, these figures represent only the tip of the iceberg” she read.
The statement also shared recommendations they want to be implemented.
