Martyr Infantry Private Hasan Kara was commemorated with a ceremony held on Burhan Tan Street in the border area, where he was martyred 36 years ago in Lefkoşa.
President Ersin Tatar also attended the commemoration ceremony of Hasan Kara, who was shot by Greek Cypriot soldiers on December 11, 1988 while on patrol duty on Burhan Tan Street in the area in the responsibility of the Infantry Regiment Command in Lefkoşa and was martyred on December 12, 1988.
A ceremony was held to commemorate Martyr Infantry Private Hasa Kara who was killed while on duty.
The ceremony was attended by the Combatant Associations who carried Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and Turkish flags, President Ersin Tatar and the Martyred Families and Disabled War Veterans Association.
A minutes silence was observed followed by the reciting of the national anthem.
Wreaths were laid in the area where the soldier was martyred.
Delivering a speech at the event President Ersin Tatar said that Martyr Kaya was brutally murder 5 years after the establishment of the TRNC.
Stating that the Turkish Cypriot people owe their independence and freedom today to the martyrs, Tatar noted that peace came to Cyprus in 1974 and lasted thanks to the Turkish military.
“There is peace, it is our duty to protect it,” Tatar said, adding that what is missing is an agreement.
Tatar stated that in order to achieve this, it is necessary to sit at the table not as a society but as a state.
Stating that they will not approve a process in which one side sits at the table as a society and the other as a state, Tatar pointed out that the TRNC, the will of the martyrs, will be kept alive and will continue to offer its people a life of peace, security and dignity.
Drawing attention to the conflicts in Gaza, Syria and the region, Tatar said that the future must be created without forgetting the past, because even today people are slaughtering each other and everyone is just standing by watching.
Stating that if the TRNC and the Turkish Cypriot people are living honorably and independently today, it is thanks to Türkiye, Tatar expressed his gratitude to motherland Türkiye.
