The country prepares to honour its fallen heroes during the 21-25 December National Struggle and Martyrs’ Week, starting tomorrow.

The week-long commemorations will pay tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for the Turkish Cypriot community’s freedom and existence. Ceremonies will be held across all districts, with Bayrak Radio and Television (BRT) broadcasting live coverage throughout the day.

According to the National Days Celebration Central Committee, the events will commence at 8:00 AM with a speech by an officer from the Cyprus Turkish Security Forces, aired on BRT and repeated at 6:00 PM. Tomorrow evening, prayers will be recited in all major mosques across the TRNC.

In the capital Lefkoşa, two key events will take place: a ceremony at the Lefkoşa Martyrs’ Memorial and a special program at the Atatürk Cultural Centre.

Speeches will be delivered by President Ersin Tatar, the President of the Cyprus TMT Freedom Fighters’ Association Celal Bayar, and the President of the Society of Martyrs’ Families and Disabled War Veterans Gürsel Benan.

Commemorative ceremonies will also be held in Gazimağusa, Girne, Güzelyurt, Lefke, and İskele, at respective monuments and cemeteries.
