The importance of further developing relations between Türkiye and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) in all aspects was highlighted once again.

The Mayor of Uşak Mehmet Çakın and an accompanying delegation who are holding contacts in the TRNC were received on Thursday by President Ersin Tatar and the Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre respectively.

Receiving Mayor Çakın, President Tatar drew attention to the importance of advancing relations with Türkiye in all areas to further strengthen the bond that existed between their two countries.

Also touching upon the latest developments on the Cyprus issue, Tatar said that there was no going back to old policies.

He stressed that the new two-state policy was based on stronger relations with Türkiye and was in line with the realities on the island.

Parliamentary Speaker Töre for his part pointed out that the Turkish Cypriot people owed their existence to Türkiye.

“It is thanks to Türkiye that we are here today. Without Türkiye’s support in our national struggle, we certainly would not have reached where we are today. Again, Türkiye would not have found anything to save had Turkish Cypriots not put up a heroic resistance. We are part of the Turkish nation that complements each other, we are inseparable. The TRNC is a Turkish state and a Turkish republic,” Töre stressed.
