A ceremony was held on Tuesday at the Cyprus Turkish Doctors’ Association as part of events marking, March 14 Medicine Day.

Problems experienced in the field of health were raised in speeches delivered at the ceremony,

Speaking at the ceremony on Tuesday, the Minister of Health İzlem Gürçağ Altuğra voiced the problems hampering the heath system in the TRNC for years.

She said that they continued to work for the creation of an effective, modern and high quality healthcare system for the country.

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Environment Fikri Ataoğlu who also spoke said that the importance of healthcare and healthworkers had once again been highlighted with the Covid-19 pandemic and more recently with the February 6 earthquake disaster in Türkiye.

Acting President and Parliamentary Speaker Zorlu Töre stated the field of education and healthcare should never be neglected and that the state always needed to prioritise both sectors.

After speeches were delivered, doctors who completed 25 and 50 years in the profession, those who volunteered in the earthquake zone and a doctor carrying out the association’s Psychological Support Program were awarded plaques.

Plaques were also awarded to the Civil Defence Organization, the Lefkoşa Turkish Municipality, the Cyprus Turkish Nurses and Midwives Association and the Cyprus Turkish Paramedics Association.
