Date Added: 29 January 2024

The TRNC meteorological department on Monday issued a warning for intense rain and storms that will remain in place until Wednesday evening.

The warning, in effect from 12pm on Tuesday until 6pm on Wednesday, is for severe local thunderstorms expected to affect mainly the northern and eastern areas of the island.

A hail warning is also in effect.

Rain is expected to fall at a rate of between 55 and 70 millimetres per hour.

In light of the severe weather warnings, the Department of Meteorology has warned the public to take a series of measures aimed at mitigating the risks and adverse effects of potential heavy rains.

Residents are urged to ensure that external drains around homes and workplaces are clear of obstructions to prevent water logging.
