Reactions continue to the TV series about the Cyprus Peace Operation that will be broadcast on the digital platform Netflix.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also reacted to the series condemning both the platform as well as the producer of the series.
The Foreign Ministry also called on Netflix not to air the series which it described was a false, biased and historically inaccurate production.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a written statement on Monday, regarding a series about the 1974 Peace Operation that will be broadcast on a digital platform.
Pointing out that the trailer of the series contains blood-curdling images that depict the events in Cyprus with a completely fictional and false narrative, the statement stated that, within the framework of the usual propaganda of the Greek Cypriot side, the images claim that the Cyprus issue started with a ‘war’ in 1974 and attempts to slander the glorious Turkish Armed Forces as the side that targeted civilians’ lives.
In the statement, the producers of the series and the digital platform where it will be aired were strongly condemned, and a call was made for the series, which is based on false, incorrect, and biased claims, not to be broadcast.
Stressing that Türkiye, within the framework of its legitimate rights stemming from the 1960 International Treaties, was compelled to intervene on the Island to stop the bloodshed, the Foreign Ministry statement stated that the atrocities endured by the Turkish Cypriot people for 11 years until 1974, the fact that the United Nations Peacekeeping Force had been stationed on the Island since 1964, the massacres against the Turkish Cypriot people, and their forced confinement to ghettos, which corresponded to three percent of the Island, were undeniable historical facts.
Noting that Türkiye’s legitimate intervention ended the bloodshed on the island, the statement added, “Today, the only party that ensures and maintains peace in Cyprus is motherland Türkiye and the presence of the Turkish Armed Forces here.”
“Such attempts to distort the facts, contrary to their intended outcomes, demonstrate how justified our struggle is and strengthen our resolve to defend our rightful cause on every platform” the statement said and stressed that that July 20, 1974, was the day of liberation for the Turkish Cypriot people.
“It is a symbol of the protection of sovereignty rights and equal status on the Island. No attempt can overshadow this reality. On this occasion, we once again commemorate our martyrs with mercy and remember our veterans with gratitude” the statement concluded.
