The Ministry of Foreign Affairs made a statement on the visit of the US Navy warship to Limassol Port in South Cyprus.
In the statement, it was emphasized that the visit is an indication of the support of the United States of America to the Greek Cypriot Administration in military matters.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement regarding the visit of USS Roosevelt, a guided missile destroyer of the US Navy named USS Arleigh Burke, to Limassol Port.
The following statement was made by the ministry: “USS Roosevelt, the guided missile destroyer USS Arleigh Burke of the 6th Fleet operating in the Eastern Mediterranean, arrived at the port of Limassol in the Greek Cypriot Administration of South Cyprus on July 27, 2024.
The visit, which is claimed to have been carried out for reasons such as ensuring freedom of navigation in the Eastern Mediterranean and supporting crisis management in the region, is part of the strategic partnership that the United States has recently increased with the Greek Cypriot Administration and is an indicator of the US support to the Greek Cypriot Administration in military matters.
It will be remembered that the USS Roosevelt, which belongs to the US Navy, as well as the USS San Juan submarine, which also belongs to the US Navy, have visited the sea ports of South Cyprus under the guise of “port visits” many times in the last two years.
Continuing to send warships of the US Navy to the island by ignoring all our calls and suggestions in this direction serves no other purpose than to increase tension.
It is clear that this military cooperation between the US and the Greek Cypriot Administration is intended to be used by South Cyprus as an element of threat against our country.
In the face of this situation, as the TRNC State, we would like to express that we will not refrain from taking all necessary steps together with Motherland Türkiye in order to ensure the security of the Turkish Cypriot people.”
