The Ministry of Foreign Affairs made a new statement on the allegations that French warplanes flew with the permission of the Greek Cypriot Administration of South Cyprus.
“Our country will not tolerate such reckless acts,” the ministry said in a statement.
Stating that the Ministry of Defense of the Greek Cypriot Administration claimed that the Greek Cypriot side allowed the flights and described this as “an example of impudence and frivolity”, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus will not tolerate such reckless acts.
“The Greek Cypriot side, under the guise of the so-called ‘Republic of Cyprus’, has no authority to issue any flight authorization regarding the airspace of the entire island.
Flights under the control of the airspace of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus have been taking place over the Ercan Advised Airspace since 1977 and are directed by the Ercan Air Traffic Control Center” read the statement.
“It is both extremely dangerous and illegal for the Greek Cypriot side to claim any rights or interfere in the Ercan Advisory Airspace.
However, the Greek Cypriot side occasionally interferes with these flights, going so far as to endanger human life.
Unfortunately, countries such as France, which give a premium to these sovereign attitudes of the Greek Cypriot side, do not realize what a dangerous game they are playing” said the Ministry.
“We take this opportunity to re-emphasize that our country will not tolerate such reckless acts and will not refrain from taking all necessary measures together with the Republic of Türkiye,” concluded the statement of the Ministry.
