Ministers and MPs who followed the trial in Adıyaman also made statements to BRT regarding the process.
Interior Minister Dursun Oğuz said before the hearing in Adıyaman that they trust in the Turkish justice system and that whatever the outcome, it will not ease the pain of the families, but perhaps it will be a consolation.
Oğuz said, “Every time we come here, the families experience the same pain. This building has no defense. There were defenses that were incompatible with reality. The building was a pile of rubble. A different scientific and visual defense is not possible. We are in Adıyaman as the TRNC. I hope they get the harshest punishment.”
National Unity Party (UBP) MP Yasemin Öztürk said that this wound hurts more and more every day and that the families may start to grieve after the trial.
Öztürk said, “Now they are reliving that moment again and again. After everyone who is at fault in this case is punished, the families can breathe a sigh of relief. They are in a constant struggle and war. I hope they get the punishment they deserve and we can mourn as a country.”
Independent MP Ayşegül Baybars also reminded that the expert reports showed that the building was built with defects and with the intention of letting them die, and said, “Today will be tense for us.”
Baybars said, “Since the prosecution gave its closing statement in the last hearing, the lawyers will make a closing speech. There may be a verdict tomorrow. This will not be the end for us, no matter what the result is, there is an appeal process. We will continue on our way regardless of the result.”
