Minister of Interior Öztürkler meets Turkish counterpart Ali Yerlikaya

Interior Minister Ziya Öztürkler met with his Turkish counterpart Ali Yerlikaya, within the framework of his visit to the Turkish capital Ankara.

Making a statement after their meeting, Öztürkler said that they are preparing their action plan to quickly implement a ‘Centre for Combating Irregular Migration’ that will be established in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

He said they want to ensure it is fully coordinated with the Republic of Türkiye’s Migration Management Presidency.

The Minister of Interior Ziya Öztürkler came together with the Turkish Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya.

The two men held a tete-a-tete followed by interdelegational meetings.

Steps to be taken within the framework of the “Memorandum of Understanding on the Support to be provided by the Republic of Türkiye in the Process of Establishing the TRNC Centre for Combating Irregular Migration”, signed in Lefkoşa on the 20th of July this year and the steps to be taken were discussed.

The e-visa automation system, which is planned to be implemented in order to increase security and public peace while entering the TRNC, the development of cooperation in the fight against irregular migration and the planning of training activities to be carried out for these purposes were also discussed.

Speaking at the meeting Interior Minister Öztürkler drew attention to the increase in irregular migration which has become a global problem and added that in order to combat the situation they are working together with Türkiye in order to ensure security and peace in the TRNC.

Stating that they held a very comprehensive meeting with the Turkish Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya and his delegation, Öztürkler said that measures will be taken against irregular migration and unauthorized foreigners who can be defined as regular migrants within the TRNC.

He said that Turkish Cypriot people will greatly benefit from the action plan that will emerge.
