Minister of Public Works and Transportation made statements to TAK

The Minister of Public Works and Transportation Erhan Arıklı said that the Northern Ring Road Project will be completed by April at the latest and will relieve the traffic, especially the Gönyeli roundabout.

Explaining that speed detection cameras will be renewed and that they will take the necessary step regarding the fibre optic cable by the end of the year, Arıklı also shared details about ports and road projects.

The Minister of Public Works and Transportation Erhan Arıklı made a statement to the Turkish News Agency Cyprus – TAK reporter and provided information on speed detection cameras, ports, fibre optic cables, road projects and vehicle license plates.

He announced that the speed detection cameras will be renewed and those who violate the legal speed limit will be sent a fine to their cell phones as soon as they are caught by the new cameras.

Arıklı said that Radarsan, an organization affiliated with the Turkish defence industry, is currently producing 150 cameras to replace the existing cameras and that the number can be increased to 300 if necessary.

Stating that the electronic weighbridge system will also be put into practice, Arıklı noted that trucks and lorries carrying heavy loads above the legal limit will be detected by the electronic weighbridge.

Also giving information about the “fibre optic cable from home to home” project, Arıklı said that they planned to launch a tender on by the end of the year.

Also referring to the situation of the Girne and Gazimağusa ports, which were privatized in 2001 and have not been invested in for 23 years, Arıklı emphasized that very rapid steps should be taken to improve the ports immediately.

Referring to the Northern Ring Road Project, Arıklı said, “There were about 32 expropriation problems here but Türkiye gave us the necessary funds and we solved the problems. This project will be completed by April the latest and will relieve our traffic, especially Gönyeli roundabout.”

Stating that they will also carry out five smart intersection projects from Gönyeli Alpet intersection to Haspolat, Arıklı added that they will greatly relieve the traffic in the capital.

Referring to the project regarding the Dağyolu – Dipkarpaz Monastery road, he said that they have taken a decision to slightly widen and improve the existing road.

Referring to the issue of new license plates to replace the two-letter and three-digit license plates, which are nearing the end, Arıklı explained that there are two alternatives, “AA 001A” or “001 AA”, and said that they will present both alternatives to the Council of Ministers and decide on which ones will be used.
