As the world is preparing and taking measures against Mpox, Health Minister Hakan Dinçyürk carried out a meeting to discuss and evaluate the measures that will be taken in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

Minister of Health Dinçyürek made a statement after the meeting and gave detailed information about the spread routes, signs and symptoms of Mpox.

Following the meeting held by the Infectious Diseases Supreme Committee and Infection Control Committee, an evaluation meeting was held under the chairmanship of Minister of Health Hakan Dinçyürek on Tuesday.

During the meeting information was provided on the Mpox virus, a viral infection typically transmitted through close contact in humans.

Minister Dinçyürek emphasized that the virus can also be transmitted from infected animals to humans and through contaminated materials such as sheets, towels, clothes or needles.

He also highlighted that the virus can be transmitted to unborn babies during pregnancy.

Symptoms of Mpox usually appear around 14 days after infection, making it difficult to screen people without symptoms.

Diagnosis is made through PCR testing of the fluid in the rashes.

Symptoms include a rash lasting 2-4 weeks, fever, headache, muscle aches, back pain, and swollen lymph nodes and severe cases may require hospitalization.

The necessary drugs for treatment are available within the Ministry of Health, and efforts are underway to increase drug stocks in case of a large-scale epidemic.

Vaccination is recommended for high-risk groups and those in close contact with patients diagnosed with Mpox.
