A newly built school in Gazimağusa, the Yonpaş Metin Derinel Lyceum, was opened with a ceremony on Sunday.
The school was inaugurated by President Ersin Tatar, the Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel and the Minister of National Education Nazım Çavuşoğlu.
Gazimağusa’s newest high school, the Yonpaş Metin Derinel Lyceum, was inaugurated on Sunday in line with celebrations marking the 23rd of April National Sovereignty and Children’s Day.
The school was built by the Yonpaş Company that imports timber products.
The ceremony was attended by President Ersin Tatar, the Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel and the Minister of National Education Nazım Çavuşoğlu.
Addressing the ceremony, the Minister of National Education Nazım Çavuşoğlu thanked those who made the construction of the new school possible.
He said that 13 new schools had been built with the contributions of private individuals and investors and that the number of new schools will reach 20 with seven more being constructed by the state.
The Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre who also spoke highlighted the importance of sovereignty.
He said that the school will serve to educate new and young generations who will appreciate the value of statehood, independence and sovereignty.
Delivering the final speech, President Ersin Tatar said that the new school was just one of many buildings and monuments that will help keep the memory of the Angel’s Team alive.
He said that it will never be possible to forget the young boys and girls volleyball team who perished in the February 6 earthquake.
Thanking the Yonpaş family for its valuable contributions to the TRNC’s education system, Tatar highlighted the importance of having 20 new schools over the past year.
