A new cooperation protocol has been signed between the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth, and Environment, aimed at protecting public health and preventing exposure to pollutants in seawater.
The protocol, signed by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth, and Environment Fikri Ataoğlu, and Minister of Health Hakan Dinçyürek, focuses on monitoring, sampling, and analyzing seawater quality.
The initiative aims to address public concerns regarding the cleanliness of the seas, particularly during the summer months.
Minister Ataoğlu emphasized that the protocol will alleviate public concerns about sea cleanliness. He highlighted that the transparent sharing of analysis results will ensure the public is well-informed.
Minister Dinçyürek noted the importance of prioritizing seawater quality, especially with the arrival of the summer season. He stated that the collaboration with the Environmental Department on various issues will continue, and the scientific analysis of beach water will confirm its safety.
Under the protocol, the Environmental Department will collect water samples, which the Ministry of Health will then analyze.
The results will be shared with the public transparently.
Minister Ataoğlu also mentioned ongoing projects to improve public beaches.
The plan involves local governments managing these beaches to ensure they meet safety and cleanliness standards.
Following their speeches, Ministers Hakan Dinçyürek and Fikri Ataoğlu formally signed the cooperation protocol, marking a significant step towards enhancing public health and environmental safety in Northern Cyprus.
