The Highways Department has implemented new restrictions for certain vehicles on the Değirmenlik-Girne mountain road, also known as the Dağyolu.
According to the decision published in the Official Gazette, trucks, full and semi-trailer trucks, and buses using this route are now prohibited from overtaking other vehicles, effectively banning the use of the right lane for passing in both directions.
The announcement also reiterated existing regulations for other vehicles on the Lefkoşa-Girne mountain road.
Automobiles, motorcycles, minibuses, and small trucks must obey the maximum speed limits on Class III roads.
Trucks, full and semi-trailer trucks, and buses equipped with auxiliary braking systems must travel at a maximum speed of 40 km/h, using up to the third gear.
Those without functioning auxiliary braking systems are limited to a maximum speed of 30 km/h and must use no more than the second gear.
These measures aim to enhance safety on the winding mountain road and prevent accidents involving larger vehicles.
