The TRNC government’s “Build a School” campaign, conducted in collaboration with local administrations, continues to make progress. Yesterday, a new building was inaugurated at Değirmenlik Primary School, marking another milestone in the initiative.

The new facility has added four modern classrooms, administrative offices, a teachers’ lounge, and a spacious playground to the school. Additionally, the historic school building underwent extensive renovations to enhance its structural integrity and educational environment.

At the opening ceremony, key government and opposition leaders emphasized the importance of investing in teachers and students. President Ersin Tatar, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel, Leader of the Main Opposition Republican Turkish Party (CTP) Tufan Erhürman, Minister of National Education Nazım Çavuşoğlu, Değirmenlik Akıncılar Mayor Ali Karavezirler, and School Principal Nedime Karasel delivered speeches underscoring the significance of collaboration between the central government and local authorities in advancing education.

Throughout the event, Değirmenlik Primary School students showcased performances including folk dances, Zumba, and choir renditions, adding a celebratory spirit to the occasion.

Prime Minister Ünal Üstel stressed that investing in children is investing in the country’s future. He noted that, following the devastating February 6 earthquakes in Türkiye, efforts have been focused on constructing new schools in affected areas to ensure students receive education in modern and safe environments.

He also highlighted ongoing initiatives to reinforce or rebuild schools that do not meet earthquake-resistant standards, including Değirmenlik Primary School.

“We are working together with local governments, business leaders, and Türkiye’s infrastructure investments to improve our schools,” said Üstel, extending his gratitude to all contributors.

Opposition leader Tufan Erhürman emphasized that teachers are the backbone of education. “If teachers are not happy, even the most beautiful buildings will not be enough to ensure quality education,” he stated.

President Ersin Tatar commended the cooperation between the central government and local authorities in improving educational facilities.

He praised Değirmenlik Akıncılar Municipality for investing in the region without political bias and emphasized the need for more schools, classrooms, and resources.

“Children are our most valuable asset. Our greatest hope is to raise a generation that loves its nation, homeland, and flag, and is ready to lead this country in the future,” Tatar said, expressing his gratitude to teachers for their dedication under all circumstances.
