Next trial hearing in İsias Hotel set for April 26

The next trial hearing in the Isias Hotel case will be held on Friday April 26.

The trial is taking place at the Adıyaman High Criminal Court.

The President of the Champion Angels Association Ruşen Yücesoylu and association member Pervin İpekçioğlu will be holding meetings in Ankara on Wednesday ahead of the trial.

The next trial hearing of 11 suspects held responsible for the deaths of 24 Turkish Cypriot children and 11 of their teachers and coaches when a hotel they were staying in collapsed is set to take place next week Friday April 26.

Ahead of the trial, representatives of the Champion Angels Association founded by the families of those killed, will be holding contacts in Ankara.

The President of the Champion Angels Association Rüşen Yücesoylu Karakaya and founding members Osman Akın and Pervin Aksoy İpekçioğlu were received on Tuesday by the Turkish Ambassador to Lefkoşa Metin Feyzioğlu.

During the meeting the association members expressed their confidence in the Turkish justice system and handed over a letter to be passed on to the Turkish Minister of Justice.

The Isias hotel in the Turkish city of Adıyaman collapsed on February 6 last year during the earthquakes which hit the region.

The Turkish Cypriots made up the Gazimağusa Turk Maarif College (TMK) school volleyball team and were in Adıyaman for a tournament. Following their deaths, the team received the nickname “champion angels”.

A total of 11 people stand accused of “causing death by conscious negligence” at Adiyaman’s third High criminal court, and, if found guilty, could face a maximum of 22 and a half years in prison.
