As part of his contacts in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Fuat Oktay, the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TGNA), also visited the Beyarmudu area.

Oktay who first visited the village of Yiğitler, then moved onto the Beyarmudu crossing point where he made a statement.

Speaking there, Oktay highlighted the significance of the Pile-Yiğitler road as a project to be proud of, emphasizing that contributing to the completion of this humanitarian project is their responsibility.

Describing the Pile-Yiğitler road as a peace project that serves a humanitarian purpose, Oktay expressed his desire for the world to see the realities in the region.

Speaking to the press at the Beyarmudu crossing point, the Chairman of the Turkish Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee Fuat Oktay said that his visit was aimed at inspecting work on the Pile-Yiğitler road firsthand, to observe the situation on the ground and to listen to the experiences of local residents.

“I want to address the entire world from here. Turkish Cypriots living in Pile have relatives in Beyarmudu and Yiğitler. There are also Greek Cypriots living there. While the Greeks on the other side of the military base have access to all their humanitarian needs through a road built there, TRNC citizens who need to pass through here cannot receive these humanitarian aids without getting permission from this military base. Supposedly, it’s a British base, but there’s the flag of the Greek Cypriot side. In a place that should be neutral. They don’t allow the TRNC flag to be raised. Is this humane? No,” he said.

Oktay underlined the need for the UN and the EU to see the realities in the region.

He stressed that the intervention of the UN Peacekeeping Force in TRNC territory was unacceptable.

“The UN turning this into a completely different narrative and presenting it to the world public is far from reality and unacceptable. Therefore, it is our responsibility to complete this humanitarian project. In fact, the UN Peacekeeping Force here also has a responsibility. This project is a peace project, and we should all complete it together as soon as possible,” he said.

As part of his visit to the area, Oktay also met with the Mayor of Beyarmudu, Bülent Bebek, to gather information and engage in discussions on various topics related to the issue.
