The Foreign Affairs Committee of the Turkish Grand National Assembly discussed the embargoes imposed on the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) in the Norwegian capital Oslo.

Commission Chairman Fuat Oktay said that during their discussion it was seen that they were looking positively towards lifting the embargoes imposed against the TRNC.

The Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Turkish Grand National Assembly Fuat Oktay evaluated the 2-day contacts that the committee carried out in Norway.

Stating that they also held talks on Cyprus during their meetings in Oslo, Oktay pointed out that Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide was aware of the Cyprus issue and said that they received a satisfactory response to their demands to end the embargoes imposed on the Turkish Cypriots.

“We see that Türkiye’s advocacy of a solution based on two independent sovereign societies, not a federation, is no longer a surprise, so we see that they are warming up to the idea of lifting the embargoes imposed against the Turkish Cypriots. There are many areas where we can work together on this,” said Oktay.
