Ombudsman İlkan Varol participated in a conference held in Doha, Qatar, organized in collaboration with the European Ombudsman Institute and the Qatar National Human Rights Commission. Varol delivered a speech on the protection of “Children and Vulnerable Groups during Times of War and Migration.”

At the conference, Varol emphasized the critical importance of safeguarding children and vulnerable groups during crises such as migration and war.

She noted that such crises disrupt the social fabric of communities, displace individuals, and exacerbate the vulnerabilities of already at-risk populations.

Varol highlighted that children, the elderly, disabled individuals, and women are among the groups most adversely affected during times of crisis.

She remarked on the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) society’s historical experiences with migration and the devastating consequences of war, stating that the community is still striving to be sensitive to such situations today.

“TRNC is working to develop effective policies under international human rights norms,” Varol said, stressing that advocating for the rights of children and vulnerable groups is a collective responsibility to ensure a life of dignity for all.
