The leader of the People’s Party (HP), Kudret Özersay, underscored the importance of Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan’s recent visit to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
Özersay characterized the visit as a pivotal step toward defining a joint roadmap for Türkiye and the TRNC, particularly concerning the future of the Cyprus issue and the Eastern Mediterranean.
Speaking during a critical period of reshaping balances in the Middle East and Eastern Mediterranean, Özersay noted the visit’s timing as significant, coinciding with the new US President’s tenure and preparations for a multilateral meeting on Cyprus set for March.
In a statement from the People’s Party, Özersay remarked, “This visit could mark the beginning of a shared strategy for Türkiye and the TRNC concerning the Cyprus issue and the Eastern Mediterranean. It would be premature to draw conclusions solely based on public announcements.”
Highlighting the shared destiny of Türkiye and the TRNC, Özersay emphasized the need for collaborative policies, strategies, and tactics as global dynamics evolve.
“Türkiye and the TRNC must prepare for the new era in international politics. Being proactive is crucial,” he said.
Özersay also pointed out Türkiye’s growing prominence in foreign relations and stressed that the Turkish Cypriot side’s influence could rise with the adoption of the right policies. He further emphasized the necessity of developing strategies that contribute to regional peace and stability.
This visit, Özersay concluded, holds potential not only for the Turkish Cypriots but also for fostering a broader sense of regional cooperation and harmony.
