The Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Ziya Öztürkler, emphasized the significance of Türkiye’s presence in the region, particularly in light of recent arms and energy initiatives undertaken by the Greek Cypriot Administration.
Öztürkler made these remarks during a meeting with Mehmet Altınöz, Vice Chairman of the New Welfare Party (YRP), and his accompanying delegation.
Speaking during the meeting, YRP Vice Chairman Mehmet Altınöz reaffirmed Türkiye’s role as the ultimate guarantor of the TRNC and underscored the enduring bonds of fraternity between the two nations.
In his address, Speaker Öztürkler highlighted the inseparable ties between Türkiye and the TRNC, stressing the importance of strengthening these connections through such visits.
He reflected on the challenging path to the TRNC’s current status and underscored the historical significance of the 1974 Peace Operation, which brought lasting peace to the island.
Öztürkler paid tribute to those who contributed to the Peace Operation, including the late Prof. Dr. Necmettin Erbakan, who, as Deputy Prime Minister at the time, provided critical support for the operation.
He reiterated that the operation marked a turning point for the Turkish Cypriot people, granting them a meaningful position on the island after years of struggle.
Addressing recent developments, Öztürkler noted the Greek Cypriot Administration’s collaboration with certain nations on armament and energy projects, emphasizing the need for vigilance.
He stated, “The presence of our homeland, Türkiye, gives us strength,” underlining the critical importance of Türkiye’s role in safeguarding the TRNC.
