The Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly, Ziya Öztürkler, criticized the armament efforts and related agreements of the Greek Cypriot Administration.
Öztürkler said that these steps would increase tension and unrest in the region.
Speaking during a visit paid to him by the President of the Retired Non-Commissioned Officers Association, Esen Ömürlü and his accompanying delegation, Öztürkler criticized the recent armament and energy activities conducted by the Greek Cypriot administration with the United States, France, Egypt, and Israel.
Stressing the dangerous steps taken by South Cyprus were being closely monitored by the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and the Republic of Türkiye, he noted that the agreements made would heighten tension and unrest in the region.
Öztürkler also highlighted the significant contradictions between the statements and actions of the Greek Cypriot administration within the European Union, NATO, and other platforms.
“There is no coherence between what the South says and what it does. It is essential to remember the efforts of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in collaboration with its guarantor state, the Republic of Türkiye, in areas such as military matters, continental shelf, security, and energy” the Parliamentary Speaker said.
During the meeting, Öztürkler also stressed the importance of not forgetting the past and learning lessons from it, expressing his gratitude to the association for its work in this regard.
The President of the Retired Non-Commissioned Officers Association, Esen Ömürlü, for his part expressed satisfaction with Öztürkler’s role in the Assembly and wished him success in his duties.
