Following the announcement of his election as Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly in the Official Gazette, Ziya Öztürkler, National Unity Party (UBP) MP, made a statement emphasizing his commitment to fulfilling his new role with dedication.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Ziya Öztürkler highlighted the formal completion of the election process: “As you know, the election results from the Republic’s Assembly’s 2nd session on 7 October 2024 and the 5th session on 18 October 2024 were approved, read out in the General Assembly, and officially announced.
The publication of the results in issue 216 of the Official Gazette has confirmed the legal status of my election as President of the Parliament.”
Öztürkler outlined his priorities for the new term, focusing on structural reforms and legislative changes to enhance the economic and social welfare of the TRNC citizens.
He stressed the importance of active work within parliamentary committees and the General Assembly to achieve these goals, noting, “My primary responsibility will be to carry out this role to the best of my abilities.”
He pledged to accelerate the legislative process, while respecting diverse perspectives and maintaining impartiality towards all political parties.
Öztürkler also emphasized the role of Türkiye’s support in the development efforts, adding that the Parliament would contribute legislatively to the government’s initiatives aimed at advancing the country.
Expressing gratitude to UBP leader and Prime Minister Ünal Üstel and his fellow UBP MPs, Öztürkler concluded, “In the new term, we will continue to work hand in hand for a better future for our country.”
