Acting President and Speaker of the TRNC Parliament, Ziya Öztürkler, visited the Cyprus TMT Veterans’ Association on Wednesday, where he met with veteran resistance fighters.

During the visit, Öztürkler emphasized the importance of passing on the spirit of Turkish Resistance to future generations and reaffirmed that there would be no retreat from the foundation of a two-state solution.

Speaking at the event, the President of the Cyprus TMT Veterans’ Association, Celal Bayar, stated that their mission is to keep the spirit of the Turkish Resistance Organization (TMT) alive, instill the struggle’s essence in younger generations, and stand by the state to ensure its recognition and permanence.

Öztürkler highlighted the historical struggle of the Turkish Cypriot people alongside Türkiye and acknowledged the crucial role played by TMT veterans.

“You are one of the cornerstones of this struggle. The spirit of Turkish Resistance must always remain alive,” he said.

He also underscored the ongoing challenges regarding sovereign equality and equal international status since 1960, stressing that the Greek Cypriot side continues to attempt to undermine the rights of the Turkish Cypriot people.

Öztürkler reaffirmed the importance of maintaining sovereign equality and equal international status while also pointing to Türkiye’s and the Turkish Armed Forces’ strategic role in the Eastern Mediterranean.

“Türkiye’s presence here is crucial for the island’s stability, and the Turkish Armed Forces remain the guarantor of peace,” he concluded.
