As part of their contacts in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE)’s Turkish Delegation visited the Republic’s Assembly.
The delegation held a working meeting with PACE representatives National Unity Party (UBP) MP Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu, and Republican Turkish Party (CTP) MP Armağan Candan.
The agenda of the meeting focused on the Immovable Property Commission and the arrests carried out by South Cyprus.
In his opening speech at the meeting at the Republic’s Assembly UBP MP Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu emphasized that the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) is the only platform where they, along with Armağan Candan, can voice their concerns on behalf of the Turkish Cypriot people.
Hasipoğlu stated that the long-standing Cyprus issue and the injustices and restrictions faced by the Turkish Cypriot people continue.
He highlighted the importance of the support provided by the members of the Turkish Grand National Assembly in Strasbourg, during committee meetings, and in Paris, in this ongoing struggle.
Deputy Chairman of the PACE Turkish Delegation, Mustafa Canbey for his part said that the Cyprus issue has been discussed for a long time but no progress has been made due to the insincere attitude of the Greek Cypriot side.
Canbey stated that they continue to raise their voice while maintaining strong relations between the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and Türkiye.
He further explained that efforts to bring the recognition of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) as two equal and sovereign states and to raise the issue of equal status in the international arena are ongoing.
He also emphasized that their work on the Immovable Property issue, the issue of the closed city of Maraş and other concerns is continuing.
Canbey concluded by stating that they will continue to support the TRNC with the reports being prepared.
