The Republic’s Assembly’s Administrative, Public and Health Affairs Committee headed by Emrah Yeşilırmak met with the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of Türkiye’s Grand National Assembly Fuat Oktay.

During the meeting, Committee Chairman Yeşilırmak said that they came to Türkiye in order to benefit from the experience of the Turkish Grand National Assembly and eliminate the deficiencies that exist in various fields in the TRNC.

Drawing attention to the embargoes enforced against the TRNC, Yeşilırmak said, “It is very important that our motherland, the Republic of Türkiye, is strong to the point where it can lift the embargoes and isolations, protecting the rights of the Turkish Cypriot people, especially our rights in the Blue Homeland. It is of vital importance for the Turkish Cypriot people that our motherland is strong in every aspect.”

Fuat Oktay for his part stated that as Türkiye, they support the vision of a two-state solution in Cyprus and noted that very serious efforts are underway both in the government and parliamentary diplomacy regarding the recognition of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

Pointing out that the Greek Cypriot side does not want to share power and prosperity with the Turkish Cypriot side, Oktay underlined that the federal solution model in Cyprus is now exhausted.

“If a just, permanent and sustainable solution is desired in Cyprus, this can only be based on the realities on the island. First of all, the inherent rights of Turkish Cypriots should be registered, then it can be discussed how to develop a cooperation model with the Greek Cypriot side. But first, we need to agree on the essentials, on the basic dimension. As Türkiye, we explain this position to all our interlocutors with determination and without giving up” said Oktay.

“Securing the existence, freedom and future of the Turkish Cypriot people, increasing their welfare level and strengthening the TRNC with all its institutions and organizations is our primary goal. Türkiye will continue to fulfil its treaty and historical responsibilities to protect the freedom, law and prosperity of the people of Cyprus today and in the future as it did yesterday” said Oktay.
