He called on UNFICYP to abandon its biased attitude that harms peace and tranquillity on the island and to fulfil its primary duty.

The Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly Numan Kurtulmuş made a statement via his social media account and evaluated the attempts of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus to prevent the construction of the Pile-Yiğitler road in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

Kurtulmuş wrote “I condemn the United Nations Peacekeeping Force, which is trying to illegally and forcibly prevent road work taking place on the Pile-Yiğitler road”

Pointing out that Türkiye supports all kinds of work being carried out by the Turkish Cypriot State in its own territory, Kurtulmuş said “We call on UNFICYP to abandon its biased attitude that harms the peace and tranquillity on the island and to fulfil its primary duty.

As Türkiye, we take this opportunity to reiterate that we always and under all circumstances stand by the Turkish Cypriot people, for whom protecting their rights and welfare is one of our most important duties. The rights of the Turkish Cypriot people will never be trampled on”.
