An evening of remembrance for the Champion Angels was organized on Sunday to support the educational complex that the Champion Angels Society will be building in Gazimağusa.

The fund-raising event, hosted by businesswoman Rabia Doğruyol and producer Nilay Gürsoy, was attended by the Speaker of the Parliament Zorlu Töre.

During his speech at the event, Parliamentary Speaker Zorlu Töre emphasized the importance of justice prevailing and the punishments serving as a deterrent.

Extending his condolences to the grieving families of those who lost their lives in the earthquake on February 6, especially the Champion Angels, he said that earthquakes are a geographical reality.

“If we were prepared for the earthquake, we might still have lost lives, but it wouldn’t have been on this scale,” he said.

He pointed out that the İsias Hotel was a building made of sand, and 72 people lost their lives when it collapsed in the devastating earthquake.

Töre expressed that those who are gone cannot come back, but justice must prevail, and the punishments to be given are important as a deterrent.

He added that they trust the judiciary in Türkiye, and he believed that the judiciary will do what is necessary.

Töre mentioned his own inspections in Adıyaman, where he observed that the buildings around İsias Hotel stood firm.

Supporting the initiatives to keep the memory of the Champion Angels alive, Töre mentioned that they find them meaningful and thanked those who contributed to the organization of the event.
