The Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre continued his contacts in the Turkish capital Ankara on Monday.

He addressed the students in the Pursaklar District of Ankara which was the final day of his visit to the region and explained the struggle of the Turkish Cypriots.

In his speech at the event held in commemoration of the December 21-25 National Struggle and Martyrs Week, the Parliamentary Speaker Töre said that the lands where the Turkish nation continues its existence were not gifted to them and that those lands were made their homeland with the blood of martyrs and the struggle of veterans.

Stating that they see the homeland as a place entrusted to them by the martyrs and veterans, Töre stated that they will always protect the land and will leave it intact for future generations.

Noting that the desire for peace is a very natural and necessary desire, Töre said that independence and homeland should be considered first and foremost.

Referring to the great Turkish leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s words “Either independence or death”, Töre emphasized that they can never give up on their independence.

He also said that no compromises can be made on national values.

He asked the students to always protect the flag and the homeland and pointed out that the flags raised will always remain that way.

At the end of his Ankara visits, Töre also visited Pursaklar District Governorship and Municipality and the Turkish Language Association.
