Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre emphasized the importance of Azerbaijan – Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) relations.

Stating that their priority is to expect support from states belonging to the same nation, Töre said that alongside negotiations they also expect to be recognised.

The Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre gave an interview to the Azerbaijan State Television AZ TV.

During the interview Töre reminded that after the establishment of the Organization of Turkic States, the TRNC took part in this formation as an observer member and said, “The developments that started with the statement by Türkiye’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan that the world is bigger than five have excited us all.”

He said that the UN Security Council has taken sides and therefore it is not possible to expect any assistance from them.

Expressing the hope that relations between Azerbaijan and the TRNC will develop and further strengthen, Töre mentioned that they had been slow in establishing strong ties with Azerbaijan.

Referring to President Tatar’s recent visited to Azerbaijan with a delegation of 100 people, Töre noted that the meeting with Azerbaijani President İlhan Aliyev was a remarkable development.

He stated that the Aliyev-Tatar meeting will be an example for both the member states of the Organization of Turkic States and some Islamic countries and said, “We expect further steps in the coming period, as we are one nation”.

Emphasizing that the TRNC is the stronghold of the Turkic Nation in the Eastern Mediterranean, Töre said, “the TRNC is our national state, it is an advanced guard post and belongs to everyone who says I am Turk. It is the primary responsibility of all of us to keep the TRNC alive.”
