The Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre issued a statement on the first anniversary of the disaster of the century and commemorated those who lost their lives and also the “Champion Angels” who lost their lives in the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquake that occured on February 6, 2023.

Töre stated that 49 TRNC citizens lost their lives in the earthquake and said that the nation will never get over this painful incident.

Noting that the lives lost can never be brought back, Töre emphasized that the state of the Isias Hotel that was not earthquake resistant had been documented and that all those responsible should receive the punishment they deserve.

He also voiced his belief that if buildings are built properly, losses can be minimized during and after earthquakes.

Töre expressed the hope that such painful days will never be experienced again and expressed his condolences to the grieving families.
