Parl. Speaker Töre issues messages to commemorate martyrs

The Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre commemorated the martyrs of Alaminyo by issuing a message.

Töre emphasized that thanks to the 1974 Peace Operation, the Turkish Cypriots were saved from being subjected to mass massacres in many parts of the island.

“Protecting this state stands as a great duty on all of us” said Töre.

In a message he issued to commemorate the Alaminyo Martyrs, the Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre noted that the Turkish Cypriot people, while continuing their struggle for existence on the island, survived important hardships but also gave many martyrs.

“The Turkish Cypriot people never lost its awareness of its Turkishness and was almost reborn from its ashes in the face of every difficulty” said Töre and emphasized that thanks to the July 20, 1974 Peace Operation, the Turkish Cypriots were saved from being subjected to mass killings in many parts of the island.

“July 20 is a light of hope that connects the Turkish Cypriots to life again. With the power given by this light, today we have no security concerns, and we are proud to have a state. It is a great duty for all of us to protect, maintain and glorify this state” said Töre.
