The Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly, Zorlu Töre, issued a message in line with the 1st of September International Day of Peace wishing for a world where justice, law and peace prevailed.

In his message, Töre noted that the Turkish Cypriot people, despite the inhumane actions they have been subjected to, had adopted Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s words “Peace at home, peace in the world,” as their motto.

Töre also stressed that “peace is not only necessary for our country, but for the whole world.”

“In a process where we continue to spend days longing for peace, with sad news coming from many different parts around the world, the evil that people do to each other, the destruction, the wars of supremacy, and the oppression of the strong over the weak do not unfortunately end” Töre said and he added “Today, we see that in many parts of the world, a mindset is dominant in which the strong tries to dominate the weak.

Stating that it was extremely sad that international organizations responsible for protecting peace are spectators to some inhumane treatments, Töre said, “The biased attitude of the United Nations Peace Force in the construction of the Pile-Yiğitler road, which is being tried to be built for purely humanitarian reasons, is the latest example of this.”

“The establishment of peace, which can be founded as a consciousness and way of life, undoubtedly depends largely on the strategies of political governments” the Parliamentary Speaker said.

Töre, also stressed that in order to leave a more liveable world to our children, we must embrace the concept of peace and make it dominant in all our lives.

“On this occasion, I wish everyone a happy 1st of September International Day of Peace; and wish for a world where justice, law, and peace prevail” he added.
