Date Added: 21 December 2023

The Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre stated that these lands in Cyprus were taken with the struggle waged by the martyrs and neither America, the European Union nor anyone else gave these lands to the Turkish Cypriots.

“Our Mujahids and Mehmetçiks fought on these lands” said Töre.

The Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre issued a video message to mark December 21st to 25th National Struggle and Martyrs Week.

In his video message, Töre said that the 1963 Bloody Christmas attacks left behind great pain and trouble and reminded that difficult days had been experienced until today.

Töre stated that the struggle started by the Volkan, Karaçete and 9 Eylül organizations continued with the Turkish Resistance Organization (TMT) and that the Mujahids kept the Turkish Cypriot people alive until the Peace Operation was realised.

“Those days were difficult times. If Türkiye had not activated its active and effective guarantor status and if Turkish jets had not flown over Lefkoşa, the Greek Cypriots would have continued their attacks until Lefkoşa fell” said Töre.

He added that the Turkish Cypriot people have been continuing their struggle since that day.

“Today, thank God, we are in peace, the Security Forces Command and the Turkish Cypriot Peace Forces Command, which are the continuation of our Mujahids, are the greatest assurance for us” said Töre.

He also said that the way for young people to look to the future with confidence is to ensure the continuity of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and to embrace Motherland Türkiye, emphasizing that it is not right to hope for help from the UN or the EU.

Pointing out that the civilized countries of the world remained silent on the genocide taking place in Gaza, Töre protested the countries, especially the US, which remains silent on the violence in Gaza and sided with Israel.
