The Speaker of Parliament Zorlu Töre received the US Republican Party Congressman Pete Sessions who is visiting the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
Speaking during the visit Töre noted that the time had come for the international community to recognise the inherent rights of the Turkish Cypriot people and said that their expectations from the United States, is for more justice.
Töre welcomed the US Congressman thanking him for his courage for visiting the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and listening to their views while they are being subjected to embargoes that they do not deserve.
Tore also informed the visiting US congressman regarding the Cyprus problem and the establishment process of the TRNC.
He stated that the Turkish Cypriots have always acted with the spirit of goodwill and cooperation for the solution of the Cyprus problem and that they have demonstrated this will by saying “yes” to the solution plans that emerged during the Cyprus negotiations.
Stating that the Greek Cypriot side, on the other hand, clearly shows that they do not have the will to live under the roof of a partnership state and that they do not want to share prosperity and governance with the Turkish Cypriots, Töre reiterated that the time had come for the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus to be recognized by the international community and that their expectations from the US is more justice.
He expressed the hope that Sessions visit to the TRNC will serve as an example and inspiration for other Members of Congress.
Senator Sessions for his part said that he is always in favour of justice, balance and truth.
“There are actually many things that can be said about injustices. I have visited the South in the past, and now I think it is extremely right and fair to visit the North. In this context, I am extremely happy to hear your views.”
Meanwhile, Senator Sessions also visited the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce and received information about the country’s economy.
