The Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre visited the Girne American University on Thursday.

Speaking during the visit Töre said that university administrations have a great duty to uphold and that stakeholders need to be transparent and more cooperative in the future.

The Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre paid a visit to the Girne American University on Thursday where he was welcomed by the university’s rector, deputy rector and dean of the Faculty of Education.

Speaking during the visit, Töre emphasized the importance of educational institutions for the country.

He said that it was not right to hand out diplomas freely and that those who are guilty to receive the punishment they deserve.

Noting that he did not find attempts to tarnish the reputation of the TRNC through universities after the fake diploma incident as appropriate, Töre said, “It is a big mistake to try to generalize this”.

Stating that efforts were underway to reinstate trust in YÖDAK-the Higher Education Planning, Accreditation and Coordination Council following the recent fake diploma scandal, Töre noted that such incidents will be prevented thanks to the cooperation with the Higher Education Council of Türkiye (YÖK).
