The Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre visited Malatya within the framework of his visits to Türkiye.

He attended the opening ceremony marking the beginning of the 2023-24 academic year of the Turgut Özal University within the scope of his Malatya visits.

In his address at the event Töre emphasized the need to be prepared for earthquakes.

He also gave information regarding the history of Cyprus and the Erenköy resistance.

“The resistance put forward by a handful of determined young people who swore that the Turkish Cypriots would exist on these lands, the Turkish Resistance Organization (TMT) and our people, were the pioneers of the struggle for existence and an important turning point in the process that brought us freedom” said Töre adding that during this time Motherland Türkiye provided all the military support.

Stating that the coup d’état carried out on July 15, 1974 by Greek Cypriot nationalists with the understanding of Enosis, backed by the junta administration in Greece, was the last straw, Töre said, “The 1974 Happy Peace Operation was inevitable.”

Underlining that the Turkish Cypriot Peace Forces brought peace to the island, Töre said, “We declared the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) with the freedom brought to the Turkish Cypriots.”

After his speech Parliamentary Speaker Töre was presented with the Malatya Turgut Özal University Friendship Certificate.
