Parliamentary delegation attend IPU meeting in Geneva

A delegation from the Republic’s Assembly attended the Inter-Parliamentary Union General Assembly meeting in Geneva.

The parliamentary delegation held its first meeting with the Members of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye who are in Geneva for the Inter-Parliamentary Union meeting.

The delegation also met with representatives from Azerbaijan, Bahrain and Pakistan and attended the Cyprus Facilitators group meeting with Greek Cypriots.

Representing the TRNC parliament was National Unity Party (UBP) General Secretary and MP Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu, included Republican Turkish Party (CTP) General Secretary and MP Asım Akansoy and Democrat Party (DP) General Secretary MP Serhat Akpınar

The delegation also met with a parliamentarian from the House of Representatives of the Greek Cypriot Administration of South Cyprus as part of the Cyprus Facilitators Group Meeting.

The meeting was moderated by Ambassador Laurent Wehrli, Member of the Swiss Parliament from the IPU Cyprus Facilitators Group, Ambassador Anda Filip, Chair of the Group and Kareen Jabre, Director of Member Parliaments and External Relations of the IPU.

During the meeting, the latest developments on the Cyprus problem were discussed and views were exchanged on the process that has been revitalized following the contacts of the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy for Cyprus Maria Angela Holguin Cuellar.

The delegation of the Republic’s Assembly also held a meeting with the delegation of Pakistan and during the meeting with Pakistan’s Minister of Commerce Syed Naveed Qamar, who chaired the Pakistani delegation and attended the General Assembly, the possible cooperation activities between the two countries in the fields of education, trade and tourism, were discussed.

The delegation returned to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) after completing their contacts.
