Peace and Freedom Day celebrated

Ceremonies and events were organised, not just in the capital Lefkoşa, but all parts of the country to mark the 49th anniversary of the Turkish Peace Operation that brought freedom and security to the Turkish Cypriots.

On the occasion of the 20th of July Peace and Freedom Day, the first ceremony was held in the morning at the Lefkoşa Martyrs’ Monument.

The ceremony began with the laying of wreaths at the Martyrs’ Monument, followed by a moment of silence, gun salutes, and the raising of the flags to the reciting of the National Anthem.

The ceremony concluded with the signing of the special memorial book by Lefkoşa District Governor Bora Akkuş, Representative of the Cyprus Turkish Peace Forces, Infantry Colonel Umut Keskin, and Representative of the Security Forces Command, Infantry Colonel Abdulrahim Namtı.

A second ceremony was also held in front of the Atatürk Monument in Lefkoşa.

The ceremony commenced with the laying of wreaths at the monument and continued with a moment of silence and the raising of the flags to the tune of the National Anthem.

During the ceremony, President Ersin Tatar and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan signed the Special Memorial Book at the monument.

In line with the 20th of July Peace and Freedom Day, similar ceremonies were also held in all districts in the TRNC.

Meanwhile, President Ersin Tatar and First Lady, Sibel Tatar, hosted a public reception at the Concorde Tower in Lefkoşa on Thursday evening to celebrate Peace and Freedom Day.
