Plans to improve Beyarmudu crossing point

The committee in charge of improving the crossing points along the TRNC border has initiated a project for the improvement of the Beyarmudu crossing point.

Recently work was launched to improve conditions at the Metehan crossing point, including the addition of a new lane and space for vehicles.

Within the context of the project, members of the committee held inspections at the Beyarmudu crossing point on Monday morning to conduct a feasibility study.

The Border Crossings Improvement Committee which operates under the Prime Minister’s Office has launched a project to improve the Beyarmudu crossing point.

Within this framework, the committee members held inspections at the Beyarmudu crossing, exchanging views with relevant stakeholders on the feasibility of the project.

Türkmen Yiğitcan, the Director of the Department of Urban Planning and Construction told reporters, that they conducted a field examination as part of the ongoing efforts to improve the crossing points along the TRNC border.

Bülent Bebek, the Mayor of Beyarmudu, noted that the crossing point has been a long-standing issue, with 1.3 million people using the border crossing annually.

He emphasized that especially during the summer months, there was significant congestion, and this number could reach 2 million, highlighting the necessity to widen the current road and perhaps add new lanes.

Bebek also expressed the hope that the problem will be solved as soon as possible.

Durali Güçlüsoy, the Undersecretary of the State Planning Organization, explained that the Border Crossings Improvement Committee, established under the instructions of Prime Minister Ünal Üstel, first initiated a project at the Metehan crossing point and would now proceed with work at the Beyarmudu crossing point as a second step.

Güçlüsoy pointed out that the Beyarmudu crossing was one of the busiest, expressing that the projects here would be completed and implemented as soon as possible.
