Prime Minister Ünal Üstel met with Türkiye’s Minister of Family and Social Services, Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş, during her official visit to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

The two leaders witnessed the signing of a protocol to construct a rehabilitation centre in Yeni Erenköy for elderly individuals and adults with disabilities.

The agreement was signed by Minister of Labour and Social Security Sadık Gardiyanoğlu and Aycan Fenercioğlu of Fenercioğlu Yapım ve İnşaat Ltd, with both Üstel and Göktaş present as witnesses.

During the signing ceremony, Prime Minister Üstel emphasized his government’s commitment to completing projects that meet the people’s needs. “We prioritize and implement essential projects step by step, shaping the future of our country rapidly,” he said.

Üstel also noted the importance of Türkiye’s financial and technical support in realizing such initiatives.

Minister Göktaş reaffirmed Türkiye’s unwavering support for the Turkish Cypriot people. “We stand by the Turkish Cypriot community in every area—women, children, elderly, people with disabilities, and social development. We are always ready to share our expertise and experience to support Northern Cyprus,” she stated.

Minister Gardiyanoğlu outlined the project, noting that the Yeni Erenköy facility would consist of two buildings: a rehabilitation centre and a care home for the elderly.

The total cost of the project is estimated at ₺45m, with Fenercioğlu Construction Ltd taking on the construction as a turnkey project.

Gardiyanoğlu highlighted the government’s achievements in modernizing and expanding rehabilitation facilities in Girne, Güzelyurt, Lefkoşa, and Gazimağusa, while addressing a significant gap in İskele.

“This project will significantly improve services for people in the Karpaz region,” he added.

Prime Minister Üstel noted the symbolic timing of the agreement, coinciding with the anniversaries of key figures in the Turkish Cypriot struggle.

“On the anniversary of Dr. Fazıl Küçük’s passing, we are signing this meaningful agreement to enhance services for our elderly and disabled citizens,” he said.

The rehabilitation centre is expected to be completed within 18 months and is set to provide essential services for the Karpaz region, addressing a longstanding need for improved care facilities.
