PM Üstel and Minister Arıklı inspects work on Girne Bypass Project
Date Added: 29 January 2025

The TRNC government has launched a major push to improve road infrastructure, with preliminary work on the Girne Eastern Bypass Project starting today. The project is expected to be completed by 2026, while the Lefkoşa Northern Bypass Cloverleaf Junction will be finished by April.

Prime Minister Ünal Üstel inspected the ongoing projects alongside Public Works and Transport Minister Erhan Arıklı, reaffirming the government’s commitment to delivering safer and more modern roads. Üstel emphasized that his administration is focused on completing unfinished projects, including Ercan Airport, the Water Supply Project, and expanded agricultural irrigation from Türkiye to Mesarya by 2026.

The Girne-Alsancak-Lapta-Karşıyaka-Güzelyurt road will be completed in the next two months, ensuring smoother traffic flow. The Girne-Çatalköy route will also be modernized by 2026. From February 1, once the new budget is in place, the government will initiate the tender process while completing necessary infrastructure preparations.

Üstel and Arıklı also reviewed plans for the Girne-Değirmenlik (Dağyolu) Road, where construction will begin in April. Despite expropriation issues, the route will be upgraded to improve road safety and boost tourism, allowing faster access for vehicles, including tour buses from Ercan Airport to Girne.

The government remains committed to ensuring a safer and more modern traffic system across the country by 2026.
