Prime Minister Ünal Üstel said on Thursday that achieving interconnectivity with Türkiye will have great benefits for the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
He said that the government was determined to address and solve the country’s energy issue.
Speaking in parliament on Thursday, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel responded to criticisms made against the government concerning the recent power cuts.
Arguing in favour of bringing electricity to the TRNC from Türkiye via cable, he expressed the view that achieving interconnectivity with Türkiye will have great benefits for the country as well as the Turkish Cypriot people.
Üstel also said that the government was determined to solve the current issues experienced with electricity in the country.
Defending the amendments the government was trying to make to the Public Tender Law, the prime minister said that the changes the government was trying to make was aimed at strengthening its hand at the table against AKSA as well as other future private energy firms.
“The fact that we have reached an agreement with AKSA, to extend its contract, does not mean it’s all over. We are meeting with companies other than AKSA as well and we shall continue to do so,” he said.
